Design for Sustainability

Home → DFS Principle 1

Ensure that all material and energy inputs and outputs are inherently as non-hazardous as possible

Hazardous material should be avoided during the design, manufacturing, and use phases. If a product is designed with hazardous material, then the design should not allow the hazardous material to be exposed during the normal operating conditions. If the product design could not avoid exposure of the hazardous material, then a protective gear system should be used to shield from the exposure.
