Design for Sustainability

Home → DFS Principle 12

Design should be based on renewable and readily available inputs throughout the life cycle

What is "renewable inputs"?

In this context renewable has two meanings:

  • Using renewable form of energy such as solar, wind etc.
  • The waste from this product becomes a feedstock for another product.

What is "readily available input"?

The product should be designed with the flexibility to manufacture with local material content. If not, this will add tremendous resources for transportation, storage, disposal, etc.
