Design for Sustainability

Home → DFS Principle 11
If a component or sub-system within a system reaches "end-of-life" prior to the system's end-of-life, then design of such system should accommodate the component or sub-system to be upgraded or substituted.
Upgradable servers, light bulbs in a light fixture, refrigerants in an air conditioner, etc. are some of the examples of where this principle is practiced. The execution of this principle has created many successful business franchises and family owned businesses in areas such as automobile repair and maintenance and home appliances repair and maintenance.
