Bathtub Curve

Bathtub curve predicts the reliability of a system. Any system (either man-made or natural) goes through three different failure modes:

• Early infant mortality
• Random failures (special causes)
• Wear-out failures

The occurring failure rates when plotted against the timeline will like a bathtub and hence the term "Bathtub curve".
