Functional Unit

It defines the function of a product or process being studied.
Examples:

• Cellular Phone: The primary function of a cellular phone is mobile communication. There are secondary functions such as comfort, ease of use, etc.
• Light Bulb: The primary function of a light bulb is to illuminate a specified area. There are secondary functions such as heat, nice atmosphere, aesthetics ,etc.
